After a lot of rotating and overlapping, I got a basic form for the dragon that had good line guides for face structure.
I decided to drop the hands, as they felt too childish and took away from the face of the dragon. I began adding color with red and golden hues, with intense black. The beginnings of texture is starting to show. The eyes are filled in and shape is starting to take form.
A background color was introduced, the light blue contrasting wight he stark red and black, and complimenting the yellow and golden tones. Texture was added with a shiplap type style on the horns and center of the face, a grainy feel in the fangs, hair-like marks around the edge of the face, and circular fuzzy dots along the side of the face.
I want to find a solution for the black on the outer parts of the face, as it makes the face too narrow. I wanted to stay in line with the textured feel, but this stone gray does not work and makes the piece too busy.
